OK- I know this might sound a little odd, but we have a process for reviewing
video content that involves transcoding DV-AVI files into MPEG2 files for
viewing across the network.  When we open the MPEG2 files and play them in
Windows Media Player, everything looks great until you grab the play slider
and try to roll the video back to a specific point in time.  What we find is
that the time counter of the clip gets off anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds when
you try to rewatch a clip.

It's getting very annoying because our reviewers need to be able to make
comments on changes that are needed at specifics times of the clip, but if
you watch a clip from the beginning, a specific event will happen at 1:30,
but if you grab the play slider and go back to 1:30 or so, you wont' see the
same event, because you'll be off by 10 seconds.  It gets difficult to tell
our editors where the event actually occurs in the clip.

So, bottom line question- is this a problem that in inherent with WMP, or is
there something I can do to get it to reflect accurate time when I scrub the
timeline?

I don't see this... it might be sourced to the MPEG2 decoder you're using...

Yes- it seems odd and not every workstation has this issue, although I'd say
at least half of the ones I tested here had the problem.  I haven't been able
to find a common thread between the ones that don't work.

At any rate, we decided to use a different player and it is working great.
It's called Elecard MPEG2 Player and it does everything I wish WMP did.
