Somehow my WMP10 has become corrupted. Whenever I click on a media file I get
an error saying "windows media player is not properly installed and needs to
be reinstalled. The file wmp.dll has a version 10.0.0.3990 where 10.0.0.3937
was expected" . Clearly, this is an error as my installer version is higher
than the one that was "expected".
At this point I wento add/remove windows components and I removed WMP10 from
my PC. Then I downloaded wmp from microsoft. com and tried to install it. I
still got exactly the same message. Then I did a serach of my C: drive and
found 4 wmp.dll. I renamed them all to wmp.old.dll and tried reinstall
again. and, nothing. I still got the same error.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to help me?

Run:
c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP
if and only if wmp.dll is version 10.0.0.3990

There is a seoparate post about this and I have tried it already.
Unfortunately, it does not work for me.

If that doesn't work for you, exactly what error are you getting? If the
"version xxx was expected, yyy was found" error is what you were getting,
the only way that wouldn't work for you is if you were not an administrator
on the machine.

Thank you, I t worked. I run the .exe from within the wrong directory.

The command works from within the "c:\windows\system32\" directory just fine.
Thanks!
My problem started with an update from MicroSoft's website. It kept asking
for me to reinstall every time I started the program and then I would. Then
the auto-update would run and the problem would show up again.
