Video Corruptions after the KB888656 Patch on all WMP !

Hello,

I’ve recently noticed that the WMP 10’s update number KB911565 caused me
corruptions on all videos using another codec than WMV/WMA, such as the DivX
videos.

To specify, I have a recent computer (principally an Nvidia 7800GTX graphic
card on which I activated the Pure Video codec bought from Nvidia and by
installing the KB888656 corrective from Microsoft).

The problem occurs as soon as I install the safety patch KB911565, then, the
videos start corrupting (Colours problems like green/pink lines, negative
colours... etc).
Because WMP11 comes with this patch preinstalled, the update towards WMP11
systematically caused me the same problems, so, I made a roll up.

I tried to disable video acceleration from WMP panel, and forcing the
“superposition” mode instead of  the "high quality" one, and that worked, no
problem after, but I “really” don’t want to spend my time
activating/disabling these options each time I pass from a HD video to a
normal one, or from DivX to WMV.
Also, I can't just go away, with the KB888656 Patch removed (my AntiVirus
notifies me a "High Risk" to my security).

If you know a solution to my problem, I thank you in advance for your
assistance.

Cordially.

Doesn't unchecking "Use High Quality" mode just fix this up?

To my understanding, this is a bug in your video card driver and regardless
is something you would likely want to follow up with either Microsoft
product support or your video card provider's product support to see that it
gets looked into properly.

Hello,

Thanks for the answer,
Yes, Unchecking "Use High Quality Mode" for "Use Overlays" fixes the problem.

But, when uncheking HQ mode, vidéos are no smoother anymore, especially for
"Low resolution" ones in full screen display.
Using HQ mode always gave me very beautiful image.
So, I don't really want to uncheck it (maybe if I find an Image enhancer).

I cant really tell that it's a problem from my GC drivers, cuz before
patching my system with the KB911565, all worked fine (even after, all WMVs
still working really fine).
removing the KB911565 resolves the problem, but make my computer "hackable".

I asked people around me, and they all use "Overlays", cuz they told me thay
had problems with the "use HQ Mode" (not the same as mine).

So, I think that's the KB911565 fault, cuz it changed the way "images" are
proceeded by the WMP, and that (maybe) interfere with the other codes, but
not with the WMV codec.
Not sure, but maybe this is the problem.

Right now, I'm uncheking the "Use HQ Mode" for Overlays, but I'm not
stisfyed, the image is really poor in full screen, and my Hardware is
especially capable for multimedia (Dual Core Opteron, 7800GTX, 2GB of HQ RAM
... etc).

Maybe someone will give another solution, thanks ^^ .

I believe specifically that the ordering of the VMR creation or somesuch
changed post that QFE, and that exposed a bug in the drivers you're using.
You will need to follow up with actual technical support for this kind of
thing - I believe you're very specifically running into a driver bug here
that neither you nor I nor anyone other than your video card provider would
be able to help you sort.  =)
