I went to Chronotron Website and downloaded, linein and got a notepad
document. I'm going to not give up on this and wish Microsoft had included
this somehow in my xp-OS. Thank you, Sir's.

Well, there went the weekend. ..I talked with some guy in France. Then I
guess I'm supposed to execute my linein.msi document somehow. I don't know.
Is owning a microphone and a desktop some sort of time machine?

I think you're intended to double-click on the linein.msi, which is an
installer file that should put all the software bits in the right
places.

Just one thought since it's not obvious to me what you want to do :

Fair play for finding chronotron - it's not obvious where to look for
that. I wasn't sure if in the title "scope your guitar" whether you're
looking to display it on screen, or record it as some sort of video.

Showing the waveform in media player should work out OK, but actually
recording that as a video of the waveform as you play the guitar is a
whole different set of tricks. I can't think of an obvious way to do
that right now.

Neil,
I was happy to see some signs of life out there..."A laptop for every one."
Update: It looks like I need to download an executable HTML but I'm not using
a server. I think if I could convert linein.msi from notepad to a program
then I could see ambient music and tune my guitar up. More later.

The only instance of "executable HTML" I can think of is an .hta
(hypertext application file) but I can't see anywhere you've referred
to that or what indeed you're discussing. There's no need to involve
HTA here at all, I mentioned it only for clarification.

>a server.

HTA files run in the browser, and have no need of a server.

>  I think if I could convert linein.msi from notepad to a program

You're deeply confused here. I've no idea what notepad has to do with
this, but as I said earlier, double clicking the .msi installer file
*should* launch the installer, because it *is* a program.
