When I click on a video file, WMP will not open, and I don't understand why.
It's not because the video files are corrupt because I was able to open them
in Winamp. What could the problem be?

Windows Media Center opens for me. I just can't open Windows Media Player, or
URGE. What is the purpose of Windows Media Center anyway?

Could you clarify any further details... ?  Is this XP or Vista?

If you open Task Manager, is "wmplayer.exe" listed in the Processes tab?

This is with Vista.  I "ususally" must shut down computer and restart to get
WMP to open.  I believe the problem is also tied in to my not being able to
play songs I would have purchased and had verified.  The problem did not
occur when the computer was purchased back in February.

Is there a portable device attached to the system?

It actually IS running but when I click either the shortcut on desktop or go
to the start menu, NG.  I didn't this time but I'm sure if I close down and
immediatly try to open WMP it WILL open.  I do not have any other devices on
the computer other then speakers etc.
Thanks for your help,
Kevin

If you click on the shortcut to WMP, does it then show up?

No it will not.  It will not show up when I go to the start menu as well.  I
am also unable to open email pics or videos so I have to save them to a temp
file.  To get it to open I must shut down and then upon opening immediatly
click on the icon and then it will open.  Yes, I know very strange.  Please
remember that this was not a problem at first so I don't know if it was a
update or something I may have changed which I normally leave well enough
alone.  I notice from the posts that I am not alone so I was hoping for
Microsoft to realize a problem and send out a fix.  WMP11 seems to be very
problematic.  Thank you for your interest and continued concern.  Kevin

Update;  Since I have not tried WMP 11 in awhile after I posted this I shut
down and found it now does not work even after shutting down.  Very quirky.
The computer is less then a year old but I have held off contacting HP for
help as provided after reading some posts and their lack of success and
considerable waste of time invested.  It will cost but will contacting
Microsoft help be wise?  It would be nice to be able to use again.

OK, so you go to Task Manager, go to Processes, choose End Task on
"wmplayer.exe", and then click the shortcut to WMP: what happens then?
Nothing?  It just pops back in the Processes tab but no player UI shows up?
Does
http://zachd.com/pss/v7multi.html
show the player?
