Somehow I have selected an effect (I think it's auditorium) and I don't know
how to get back to normal sound. This may not be a media player problem - it
might be some other option - I have no idea. I'm a novice!

Assuming media player 11, there are a few settings which might be
close : Under the now playing tab is a small dropdown menu. Click
that, choose Enhancements and go to Crossfading & Volume levelling.

Turn that off. Click the right-arrow button to go to Graphic
Equaliser, turn that off, same for Quite Mode and SRS WOW effects.

If none of that helps, the next stop would be the speakers -

Click Now Playing small menu again, choose More Options menu.
Go to Devices. Click Speakers then the Properties button, the
Advanced. Click Speakers again (on the Playback tab) and Configure.

At that point you might be presented with various speaker effects
including Echo, Reverb, Room, Ampitheatre, as well as Stereo /
Quadrophonic and so on. Set it to Stereo for now, and turn off any of
the digital effects.

Any improvement ?

HTH
Cheers - Neil
