Error C00D11B1 when playing some .mpg files

Hi.

I've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player 11
to play some .mpg files.

Specifically, the DreamScene content files distributed by Microsoft won't
play in WMP 11, but they will play in 3rd-party applications such as VLC
Media Player. I have other .mpg files that play just fine.

Also, they won't work as DreamScene desktop backgrounds but any .mpg file
that I can play in WMP 11 also works fine in DreamScene.

Same here, can't play any MPG or MPEG file on WMP 11, gives me error
C00D11B1.
I tried rendering on GSpot and came up with this:

Can anyone help me? I've been stuck with this problem for over a year!
It also affects games (such as the San Andreas MPG opening not showing

Is this a Vista system? I have it on pretty good authority that the Ligos
MPEG Splitter should not be run on Vista.

What codec pack was installed here? Ligos + FFDShow to me sounds like a
codec pack, which usually will do horrible things to your system.
What exact version of FFDShow is this?
