I am trying to install Windows Media Player on a Windows 2000 OS. The
program downloads but when it tries to install I get the following message:
"The procedure entry point Trace Message could not be locatged in the dynamic
link library ADVAPI32.dll" and the installation fails. The instructions are
to try again but I've tried a least 6 times now and it will not install.
I've restarted the computer after each attempt but that has not helped
either. Does anyone have any ideas?

Are you trying to install WMP10 or 11 ? Only WMP9 can be installed on
windows 2000 - the others require XP. This should be the correct file:

I am trying to install WMP 9.0. I tried the link you sent and still get the
exact same response.

What's the file version of advapi32.dll on your system? I'm suspecting that
that's the problem on your system - you have a bogus version of that.

Speaking for myself only.
