Hi.

I configured WMP 11 running on Vista to stream files to my PS3.  The PS3
appeared in my Media Share as an unknown device.

I mistakenly right clicked the unknown device and selected the "Remove from
list" option.  Now whatever I do, I cannot get WMP to recognise by PS3 ie the
Unkown device will not appear as an option to allow.

I notice that the "Remove from list" option has a Security Centre icon next
to it.  I had a look in here but am unable to locate an option to place the
PS3  (unknown device) back into the list.

I would be grateful if anyone has got any ideas.

Thanks

Hi Phill,

I have the exact same problem as you. I stupidly removed the icon from the
list and I have never seen it since. Don't bother with the system restore I
tried and it didn't work. I have also tried every other method that I could
find and I still cannot get the bloody thing to work. It has driven me insane
for the last couple of months. I am contemplating paying someone to try and
sort it out for me.

I am running XP, which shouldn't be too much different from you. Let me know
if you manage to fix the problem.

Good luck

Scott

Skoot,

I think there may be an issue with the registry settings.  WMP does it's own
security and lists devices which it will permit (as defined by the user).

Try this link
     http://blogs.msdn.com/alan_ludwig/default.aspx
and this section within that page
Windows Media Connect can’t see my DMR

Very thorough and explains registry settings, etc.  Haven't had time to run
through it all yet but would be worth a try.  Would certainly allow you to
understand all the issues!

Cheers, Phill

Cheers for this Phill, I'll have a look when I can. Although I did promise
the Mrs that I would leave it alone...but I've gotta give it a go!

Skoot,

Just a quickie on my progress.  Complete reinstall of Vista sorted it.
Everything appears to work (which is where I was before I removed the PS3 by
mistake).  I suspect that there is some security setting (as indicated by the
shield in the context menu) somewhere which is not publicised...security
through obscurity.  However, it seems silly that it is not possible to
reinstate a device which has been removed without a reinstall.

I have to say that I have seen several threads on this issue and no-one has
found a solution...so good luck.
