I needed quicktime for a specific job and installed it together with ITunes.

But now I lost all sound in WMP. It plays wmv files etc. with video, but no
sound. There also seems to be some problem with the file association after
installing quicktime. The files has the Itunes icon, even if they open in
WMP.

What do I do to solve the problem?

Does uninstalling QuickTime make this problem go away?
What version of WMP?  What version of Windows?

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
