I work still with XP ,updated to nr 11 ,worked fine for 5 months ,then '
would'nt import no new maps  and files.I did a system recovery, wich worked,
1 month later it's the same problem, sys recovery works no more, and
installing again won't work either. I Downloaded Winamp wich imports files,
but I want to go on working with nr 11.Please please please ,any hints ?

Media player 11 doesn't play Maps or generally any non-media files (in
the same way Word or Excel don't act as media player or map reading
programs).

So it's not clear what steps you're trying and how we'd  reproduce
them to experience your problem - care to describe in a little more
detail what problem you're having and what type of files you're trying
to open ?

Thanks Neil,whell....I use WMP 11 only for music ,I.m not sure how you call
certain things in English, but with maps & Files ,I mean just the regular
music formats, music maps with Mp3 etc.it worked fine for 5 months ,before
that I had 4 months WMP 9,
as I explained I did a sys recovery that worked, but not anymore.
I suspect it might be some sort of virus,At the moment I've still got only
AVG free edition.Allthough I.ve got no other problems at the moment,I use the
PC primerely for music. So....at the moment the library is empty,I can play
music via my original Music maps (or folders) though, but I want to be able to
do it via MP.
Anyway Neil...thanks for the interst.

I'm not certain what you mean by 'maps' and 'files'. Could you clarify what
you're trying to do with Windows Media Player here?

If you press "F3" in the player, what folders are listed in that dialog?

In windows, if you go to the Users section in control panel, and make
a new User (say call it PAUL2), and add a password, it should create a
whole new user profile.

When you then start media player, the player should create a library
database which lists at least the media folders underneath
My_Documents (My Music, My Photos, My Videos etc)

Stick a few files in those folders - for example, rip a CD which
should end up by default in My Music, and see if it's listed in the
media library.

If that doesn't work - for example you can't create a new user, I'd
have to ask if the PC is owned by work and managed by some coroporate
IT department ?

HTH

That's the symptom, the problem is a corrupt Media Library.
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
should fix you up. =)
