I have an .avi file that was created on Vista that will not play on WIN XP
using WMP11.

I only have sound and no video.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

It's usually hard to guess what the codec used to create the AVI video
part is - most commonly it's the DivX codec which is missing and
required for playback (see http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/ )
but there's a wide range of other codecs also used in video
production.

GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ is a tool which diagnoses the
codecs required for playback of audio and video parts of an AVI file.

If you were to download and install that, load the video into GSpot
and tell us what it reports is needed for playback, we could point you
to the correct download in most cases.
