Quite often I find album info and the info includes the album art - but when
i apply it it doesn't apply the artwork so i have to goggle it?

No, WMP11 is erratic in displaying cover art.
Options > 'apply media changes' to force the interface to display the cover.
Paste album art to force wmp to write it as a tag
