Ah, sorry.
It does so on all CD's I insert. Commercial CD's, yes. But usually,
when I insert a CD, WMP starts searching for the music data and adds
them automatically. Now it just says "Artist Unknown", etc.
But when I manually let it search for the correct artist, it seems to
know exactly which CD is in the laptop. It just does not add these
data to WMP, not even when I tell it to. So ripping it to my harddisk
is a workaround, a good one, but I'd rather have my WMP working
correctly again ;-)
Thanks
Joyce

In addition to this: my media library is and stays empty. When i
mannually add the folders in which it has to search for files, and
push Apply, it looks okay, but when I close the window and open the
preferences again, no folder is added :-(
Cannot help but think that one has to do with the other.

Ah: yes, that should clearly indicate that your library is broken. If you
reset it-

you should be good to go again.

And you're right. Thanks, this was very helpful, I cannot thank you
