XP Pro user here, with Auto Updates ON - I just ran Trend Micro's Free Scan,
which I do every couple of months, in addition to AVAST, and a warning came
up in the results (which were minor) about my WMP and directed me to this
link in MS ... I realize it's an older Bulletin, but how do I know if I'm
protected. Had no idea the idiots were into WMP, but truthfully, its one of
the reasons I held off downloading v. 11 for so long, b/c I don't need a
retail store on my system, and I could not find the file for auto updates,
etc. and I'm a blind user.

WMP v.11.5221.5145
Thank you.

Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. In the top right corner,
click "Show Updates" to show all KB updates.

Scroll through the list (it's in numerical order) and look for the
update labelled KB936782. If that's there, you're protected.

If not, it should be available under Windows Update website, and
should be marked as a high priority update.

If you're really worried about being safe, you could do worse than
install and run the baseline security analyser from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsahome.mspx
which can catch a very wide range of marginal and insecure
configurations (though some settings will restrict functionality)

HTH

Thank you - it appears I have the newest version ... in fact, I'd prefer not
to have retail store on my computer. Simple media player would be fine.

Thank you, again - the security options are great, but complexed ... sigh
