Hello, I get this error message on XP with WMP 11 when I try to watch movies
on the Netflix site.:

WMPError(C00D11CC)

Windows Media Player is not installed properly. Reinstall the Player.

I ran windows Update and there was nothing new to install for the media
player or anything else.

I tried un-installing, re-installing and rebooting several times, and called
Netflix support when none of that seemed to work.  They had me download and
install the media player SDK, but I still get the error and contact Microsoft
if the error kept happening.

I searched forums on-line and saw that some other people resolved this error
by renaming a DRM folder in there documents and settings/all users, but I
don't even have a folder named that.

What happens when you run the player directly?

The DRM folder is normally invisible:

I finally red that site carefully enough to find my RDM folder. (I kept
forgetting that after I un-hid everything I had to apply the change to all
foders before changing directories.)

When I when you run the player directly I get no errors and stuff plays just
fine.

Can I play the netflix stuff that way?

Does the netflix stuff work now or not?  It uses the same basic system.

I know how frustrating this problem is, I tried contacting Netflix
support, Microsoft support, and reading through all of the WMP 11 guides
to no avail. I finally found a solution by accident and hopefully it
will help you. I am using Windows Vista SP1 and this is the path that I
followed: Start -> Computer -> Local Disk (whichever harddrive windows
is installed on) -> Program Files -> Netflix (should be a folder in
Program Files) -> Netflix Movie Viewer -> double click Install Checker
(at this point install checker told me I had a bad install) then once
Install checker was done I double clicked NF_Movie_Player_211 (in the
same folder as Install Checker). Once I had followed those steps I was
able to once again watch Netflix streaming video. I hope this helps

After an hour wasted fooling around, I finally called Netflix tec
support and spent another 26 minutes figuring out how to upgrade WMP
The final steps to success are described below.

Here they are:

1) Reboot/Restart Windows XP

2) "ResetDRM" in the folder "C:\Program Files\Netflix\Netflix Movi
Viewer" through Windows Explorer and double click to start. "Yes" the
"Reset DRM" then "Ok"; >>>>Better read the warnings first<<<<

3) Start Windows Media Player 11 and upgrade the DRM component throug
WMP by pasting this link "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49282
into the File->Open URL->; Click "Ok"; Wait and Click "Upgrade" and wai
some more; "The Component was upgraded successfully" message should b
displayed after it downloads and installs Click "Close";

4) Open Windows Internet Explorer and Go to this UR
"http://www.netflix.com/drmtest". Hopefully the "New IBX" number i
"3.6.x.x"

5) Test play a movie on Instant Watch.

Good Luc

Netflix has been changing how you play movies online recently, and it
now is much faster to start a movie. The screen and controls are a bit
different than even just a few months ago. The only time I have had
problems with the WMP 11 on XP concerned Netflix. I finally was abe to
get through to a Netflix tech. She said the WMP 11 needed to be
reinstalled before I had given her many symptoms as if she had heard
this story many times before. Reinstalling WMP11 on XP did work,
although I doubted that it would. What happened to me is that
everything seemed normal until the player was connected and ready to
go. Then the screen was black and the movie would not start. This was
before the recent changes that I mentioned.

Netflix has a wide variety of users, and apparently many of them have
had problems playing Netflix movies on a PC. Thus Netflix is now
offering another option. They now have a box that sells for about $100
and connects directly to your internet connection and your TV. It is
all automatic. A computer is still necessary for doing some things on
Netflix, but is not needed for playing the movies. You can watch your
movie on the TV while someone else uses the computer, for example. You
can read about the details of the player box at the Netflix site.
Before the end of the year, Netflix plans to make the movies available
through the X box and a Blu HD DVD player that connects to the web.
This also is described on the Netflix site.

Netflix now seems to show all of their trailers for rental DVDs in the
FLV/SWF format. These trailers of course can only be seen by members
of Netflix. The beauty of this is that most modern OSs and browsers
support flash with very few problems. The FLV video format can give
high resolution video and stream well. On the other hand, you have to
switch to an IE7 browser(there was a complicated way to make IE6 work)
and have WMP 11 to view the full movies. In other words, you are
forced to use a recent IE browser and have a Windows XP or Vista OS to
view the Netflix movies. If they would just switch to the FLV/WMV
format for their full movies, one could use nearly any recent OS and
browser to view the movies on a most computers with few problems.
However the box option likely will serve the needs of many for now.

It seems crazy that after a fresh install of xp and a fresh download of the
latest IE and WMP this brand new computer would be so corrupt that it needs
to be replaced by some proprietary Netflix hardware to play these files.
