Hello,

Strange problem: when I doubleclick on a videofile (AVI, WMV,...) WMP
doesn't open.  I do hear the sound of the video but see no video.  WMP also
does not appear on the taskbar.  When I check the taskmanager wmplayer is
running as a process, not as an application.
If I then launch WMP the video is shown.
Since a few days this now also happens on my second computer, also running
Vista SP1

Thanks,

Werner

ZachD has a proposed for for this :
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#deskband

In Vista you'd first go to the Start -> Search... box and type in

CMD

Wait till the command window icon shows up in the list of reuslts then
RIGHT CLICK the CMD icon, choose Run As Administrator and agree to the
user access control message.

Then type in the commands to re-register the taskbar player :

regsvr32.exe wmpband.dll
regsvr32.exe wmp.dll

It's also (possibly) still worth checking the offscreen settings, just
in case that is the cause : http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#offscreen

HTH

If people do hit this on Vista, I'd like to get pieces of data from their
registry before they fix it.  That might allow me to insert a better fix for
Windows 7. =\

Hey Werner

You know, I just got the same problem you have.  I tried to open an wmp file
today  and Media Player started up and started to play the video, but nothing
displayed.  I also can hear audio and the time bar on the bottom moves across
like it was playing a video but no video showed up.  Have you been able to
fix you problem?  If you have, let me know.
