wmp 10 and 11

Any video i try and play is too dark. I tried the brightness and contrast
settings and they helped a bit but the settings also don't stay where i put
them.

This would be a problem with your video card driver then.  The
brightness/contrast settings only tweak per-file and cannot be made to tweak
always.  =\
