Can anyone direct me to software alternatives to Windows Media Player that
can synch to devices that support wma formatting? I am interested in ripping
CDs lossless and synching in VBR, something Windows  Media Player apparently
doesn't support.

It will depend on your device: many don't support bitrates > 320.

It is a SanDisk Sansa e270 which supports WMA VBR. I can MSC or MTP "Drag
and Drop" files that are encoded at average VBR rates > 500 or let Windows
Media "Synch" without conversion, i.e, VBR.

It does not seem to support Lossless, although the best SanDisk support is
able to tell me is, it is not supported but may work. I think the only
players I've seen that support Lossless are the hard disk based, like
Toshiba GigaBeat, and iPod. The iPod does not have an expansion slot for
Flash, or ar hard disk based, a short lived solution considering Samsung has
announced 32 GB Flash, and their quirky Apple produced software is about as
bad as the Lisa in terms of the UI.
