Hi guys!

Ever since I installed WMP 11 beta 2, I cannot get any streaming video to
play. I tried reverting the system back, installing versions of WMP10 etc.
However, everytie I try and play the stream, this is what I get:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is
not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a
different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

I know that a lot of people are having ths troubles (read the posts from
before) so I was wondering if you are anything close to a resolution?

My system is a Windows XP SP 2 laptop with WMP 11 beta 2 and reverted to WMP
10. Antivirus software is NOD32, the firewall is Windows's.

So, after a little troubleshooting, I found out the problem is with this file:

<asx version="3.0">
   <PARAM NAME="Prebuffer" VALUE="true" />
   <PARAM NAME="CanSeek" VALUE="no" />
   <PARAM NAME="ShowWhileBuffering" VALUE="true" />
   <title>24ur.com Video</title>

  <entry>
       <ref href="mmst://censored_address" />
       <PARAM NAME="Prebuffer" VALUE="true" />
       <PARAM NAME="CanSeek" VALUE="yes" />
       <PARAM NAME="ShowWhileBuffering" VALUE="true" />
   </entry>

</asx>

But I have also noticed the same problem is on my other machine with WMP 10,
and XP Pro SP2, but not on my W2k3 server where it works great. The same
applies for a virtual machine. Does anybody have any idea why this is
happening?

With regards,
Anze

If you use plain mms does it work better..... ?
The windowsmedia.server newsgroup may be of more interest.

I have no option to choose. I am not the maintainer of the server, I just
want to use the streaming media. What I would need is somesort of a "test"
server where all the options are tested and I can really get down to the
bottom of this, it's driving me crazy.

Do you have any clue as to what could be the problem?

Regards,
Anže
