windows media player not working

after tryin to download a short video that , now I can't
access win media at all..........
whenever i click on the icon or go to it thru the program
list it just makes a sound and refuses to bring up the
windows media screen..

This same problem happened to me after installing Office
2003. I click on a media file and nothing happens, I
open Media Player in a shortcut nothing happens, and
finally I run the executable from the program files
folder and nothing happens. I have tried
uninstalling/reinstalling several times!

Any help anyone?
