If you go to the system's Defaults Programs control panel and reassociate to
WMP there, does it then work as expected?

Ya I did that but Quicktime keeps resetting it when I go to a site that uses
Quicktime plug in. So I have to go
back a select WMP as default again. It's a little annoying.

QuickTime often will do this unless you uncheck certain options in their
Options/Preferences menus - you may want to check there. WMP doesn't have
any control on this - WMP deliberately tries to avoid this kind of thing
since it tends to confuse and/or anger people. =\
