It could be something as simple as the phone is a slow device. When
transferring to the card using the phone, it has to shovel (let's say)
1GB of data through the phone's CPU and then over its slow memory bus
to the memory card.
Instead, if you sprung about $10 for a universal memory card reader,
you should be able to move that data to the memory card using WMP (if
using USB2 card reader), then put the card back into the phone. It
should be around 4-5x faster than syncing via the phone itself.

Thanks Neil! I probably should have included in my post that I use that as
my work around, but it is such a pain in the backside to remove the battery
and the card to sync music. I was hoping that the WM11 patch would have
fixed it, but hearing that the device is just inately slow, that now leaves
me impatiently waiting for my contract to expire so I can get a discounted
upgrade on a new phone. :)
