I have 5 legally-purchased, audio CDs that I have "ripped" onto my HD so that I
can use the CDs in my car stereo. All copied files play normally. My problem is
that when I select the "Library" view, three of the CDs have a "Yes" in the
"Protected" column whereas two of them have a "No". Can someone tell me what I
did wrong in the "ripping" process?

In addition, one of the CDs in the :Library" view has the artist properly
identified, but "File Name" identified only as "0X Track X.wma" instead of the
song title.wma. Not a big issue, but just curious if it's a related problem.
Thanks!

Bill

It's just really if you go to Tools->Options->Copy Music there's a
checkbox labelled 'Copy protect music' - turn that off in future when
you're ripping. No, I don't know what it's for, either ;-))

When WMP picks up tracks from the online data sources, it's about
60/40 if it has the track details provided by the music publisher.

You'd think they'd take a bit more care about this, but I suppose
they're too busy suing file sharers (who turn out to buy about 3x more
legal music than non file-sharers)

Thanks Neil, for your reply! Unfortunately, when I go to Tools>Options>Rip
Music, under the "Rip Settings", the "Copy protect music" is NOT checked.

Well maybe *now* it isn't ;-) But was it set when you copied the files
listed with copy protection ? I'd have to assume it was <g>

Rip one now and see if it comes out as copy protected ...
