Difference between microsoft update & Windows update

On pressing the "All Programes" button, Near the top of the list, I have
Microsoft Update and Windows Update why? What is the difference between the
two? thanks

one updates windows, the other updates ms programs, like Office.

Puzzled, I have gone back to the update buttons, both give the same image and
both show the same update, anymore clues as to why? I know it is not to
important but one does not wish miss updates. Thanks

I think you may get more answers posting in a general Windows group, rather
than one specific to Windows Media Player!
