What does "protect my license" mean?

What, exactly, do you mean by "protect your license"?  Do you mean you
want to move licensed software to another computer and sell your old
one?  If so which software are you speaking of?  Is it OEM versions that
came with your computer or something you bought retail after the fact?

The answer to your query depends on you expanding the information given...
(Practically none at this point.)

1) What 'license' do you speak of? (For what product(s) at the very
least...)
2) What do you mean by 'protect my license'? (Protect your personal
information in association with said license, maintain that the license is
yours, ets?)
3) What type of ;license' does whatever product you are concerned over have
(OEM, Retail, Upgrade, Volume, MSDN, etc?)
4) Did this 'license' come with the computer as a whole - part of the
original purchase - or did you purchase this license seperately? (Somewhat
associated with (3)...)

Park your car in the garage and lock its doors so the seller can't steal
your car's license plates when they come over to pickup the computer.

"my license".  Yeah, that says a lot, uh huh.

If you are talking about the license for the operating system, well,
that depends entirely on WHAT version you have of it.  If it is an
open-source or freeware OS (e.g., Linux) then why do you care?  If it is
an OEM version of Windows, that license MUST accompany the computer on
which it was installed.  You are never allowed to legally use an OEM
license of Windows on any other host than the first one on which it was
installed.  If it is an OEM license, the buyer gets your license.

If it is a retail version of Windows, wipe the hard disks.  After all,
why would you want to give polluted hard disks to the buyer?  How do you
know all your personal data has been removed from the hard disk,
including the unused sectors?
