Locked Myself Out Of Admin Account

Thread rating: |
Terra - 15 May 2008 06:23 GMT I have searched and searched for a solution on this and to no avail.
I had just the one admin user account and wanted to add another, I wanted the extra one to be the admin one and the original I set with standard user and parental control.
Now there is no admin account when I go to switch user, I have tried in safe mode and several other suggestions but what happens is that becoz I have set it as parental control it asks for password to be entered, the password that I set as my admin one, it wont accept as it says 'logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer'.
Im stuck and would appreciate any help :(

When you were in safe mode, what did the screen say and what did you do ? It's important, so be precise. Recreate the safe mode condition again, if you need to.

Terra - 15 May 2008 23:59 GMT When in safe mode I tried to create a new user account, change the current user account, system restore, everytime I tried to do something it asked for password from Admin Account, when the password is entered it gives the message, which is the same when trying to do anything in normal mode 'logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer'
I aslo did cmd, right click, run as administrator, and it asked for the password and gave the same message.
I appreciate your time :)

I meant to ask: what did you see on the screen FIRST thing when you were in safe mode. Were you asked to logon like you would be in normal mode ?

Terra - 16 May 2008 00:39 GMT It doesn't even give me the option of creating a new account, only make changes to the one I have.

First thing you want is a password that the system will recognize ( don't know what happened to your first one. I can't figure that out, yet). Once it is accepted, then change that account to admin account. Are you allowed to do all that ? Remember no password when you are prompted, just either click OK, or hit ENTER key. Man! I'm fishing now.

Then change password, then change to admin account.

Terra - 16 May 2008 01:03 GMT it just lets me create a password for my account, and change the picture, everything else must have a password entered as I have set this account with parental control. But when I type the password that I set it wont accept it and gives me that message that says the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
Its all to do with the parental control im thinking??

Terra - 16 May 2008 01:04 GMT How do I turn parental control off? When its got parental control on it, doesnt that defeat the purpose?

Do you know how to do system restore ? If you do, do it in Safe mode, choosing the date BEFORE this problem arose. If you don't, restart you machine, and AS SOON AS you have power on, hit F8 key repeatedly until safe mode screen is on. Choose the option : LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION by using the up/down arrow keys. Press Enter key. Are you back to normal ?

SG - 16 May 2008 06:57 GMT Hi t-2-4,
Lets hope System Restore will fix this because Last Known Good Configuration just deals with pretty much Hardware/Drivers changes.

If you need help then please start a new thread. This one is old and when you reply with a problem even like the OP had, you cheat yourself out of getting perhaps several responses. Many have already looked over the original post and have moved on and most likely will never see your post.
