Vista creates multiple folders -

When I create a new folder,  Vista just sits there for several minutes,  
because it's creating HUNDREDS of folders.    How can I stop this ?

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a Dell Dimension E521 PC.

I'm on my PC running Vista,  creating the folder in a mapped network Snap
disk.  I can create folders on the PC ok.
