While I don't have the initial release of Halo for Windows, I do have Halo: Combat Evolved for Windows. It runs VERY well in Vista. In fact, the graphics performance is MUCH smoother and faster under Vista than it was under XP.

Leon Smith - 13 Feb 2007 14:41 GMT Yep working fine on my Home Premium 32-bit.
> Would like to see anyones attempt with HALO on Vista. Chris - 13 Feb 2007 19:41 GMT Hi, mine too, looks fabulous on my 24" widescreen after I found out how to put vidmode into the exe. Even puts itself into 'games'. ChrisC

Get your act together Microsoft!! CoD2 and BF2 are titles put out by Activision and EA, not Microsoft. Windows Vista appcompat work did include both of these titles along with many others, but if the publisher issues a new patch then it is pretty much up to them to make sure it continues to work on the OS.

Torbjörn Nyström / Pharoe Islands :) - 19 Aug 2007 22:18 GMT Well, on my 3weeks-old Vista Home Premium, not many games works. CoD2 multiplayer worked slow but ok for about 5 days. Then suddenly it just stopped. Wouldn't even start. Just the message that there is a "problem...". As if I don't know that. Been trying to fix it for 2 weeks now, and still nothing. Well, I want to play something so I installed Rise of Legends. I thought because it's a Microsoft game, I'll stay out of trouble. But was I in for a surprise. First it wouldn't start. "There is a problem...". Unistall, clean startup and reinstall. Now the install of Rise of Nation will not start.
Hasta la VISTA is giving me the creeps... I've tried to run as administrator and still nothing.
Have to admit that Vista have not convinced me yet. Everyone I meet, talk "not-so-nice" about Vista. I have not met anyone face-to-face that can say nice things about Vista and games.
No, if I can't get it fixed soon, I'll just admit my money is gone. Buying Vista was a mistake. Microsoft really have to do better than this. Release a ServicePack or something. We want our new computers to work.
We'll pay a lot of money for RAM, graphic-cards, screens etc etc. And we pay for a brand new OS, that should take the experience to a "higher level".
But we all sit here frustrated. We paid for a OS that gives us nothing but agony.
Taking the machine back to the shop is a possibillity. But why should it be necessary? We have paid good money, and want some fun. That's all.
I've always backed up Microsoft when my friends started with Linux. And I still use Internet Explorer when my friends have Mozilla.
Microsft must really do something, because I want to play CoD2-multiplayer now.........

JOHN HARRIS - 09 Apr 2007 22:23 GMT CoD2 works fine on my Vista HPE system. Have no idea what troubles you are having.

KentuckyRanger - 06 Aug 2007 04:26 GMT You'd think a Game produced under Microsoft would, um, work with Microsoft O/S's...
It installed on Vista X64 OK but keeps freezing. I have 2 EVGA 8800 Ultras in SLI and the F/R's are horrable. I did finnaly get it to run OK, just OK after setting my SLI to One GPU in nVidia's Control Panel. This means that One Card is used for video and the other is used for its resorces. Still get bad F/R's and have to turn off Antialaising just to get that. I average maybe 15fps on a good Day, and that's not including sloppy Frame rendering, something that has to do with the Game itself. The video Card only uses the Data its given. Bad Data to the Card means bad F/R's and lousy Picture as well. I hear it's because of my video Card choice but I don't buy it. I think it has to do with bad drivers on the Games part. They Code these Games to work with minimal Systems and leave the more cutting Edge systems like SLI to the Dogs. I imagine if I had a Dell or Gateway with bare minimums the Game would rock and the F/R's would beat my Monster Rig 9 ways to Sunday. It's all about the consumer, and consumers aren't using SLI. Untill SLI and 64bit technology is a consumer norm, forget support...
Trust me, it's not my Rig. You can see what I'm running here: http://www.eggxpert.com/blogs/kentuckyranger/archive/2007/07/14/monster-dream-ma chine.aspx

Can't even recall if SLI was around when Halo 1 came out. Ever think of that?

KentuckyRanger - 07 Aug 2007 03:12 GMT Don't worry Andy. I think we all get Bitter when it comes to all the PC crap. Microsoft updates and expects everyone to keep up. It's a never ending story. I assumed this was a Thread about Halo 2 for Vista only. I'd say the original Halo would freze my new Rig up, LOL! I remember when I first got A Rig with XP in it and tried to install Alien vs Predator. It blew XP's MInd and I ended up having to re-format my new Computer over it. I've read that Vista is supposed to be a little more old software friendly than XP was, I doubt it, LOL! What makes me mad and a little bitter as you can imagine is the fact that I just got Halo 2 and it's for Vista only. Doesn't that mean if you have Vista it should work? Trust me, if I was trying to run the original Halo in Vista I'd just be thankful it didn't mess up the system to the point I'd have to do a re-install. But to buy something that's supposed to run on a O/S you have and it doesn't is just beyond me. It would be like buying a Game for the PS2, getting it Home just to find out it's actualy for the X Box 360 but says PS2 on the Box. I know that's a stretch but hey, it sounded good when it was in my Brain, LOL! I did finally get it to ply but the Frames are still not of very good quality. I get Pixel slashes going down the Screen when moving around like the game is having a really hard Time keeping up. I know it's not the video Cards because I Benchmarked everything and I'm getting very good Frame rates. Maybe some Day everyone will be on the same Page. Well, I said that 15 Years ago, LOL!

Andrew - 07 Aug 2007 06:09 GMT >But to buy something that's supposed to run on a O/S you have and it doesn't >is just beyond me. You must be new to PC gaming. MS developed the 360 for people like you.

KentuckyRanger - 07 Aug 2007 13:44 GMT I'm not going to turn this into a debate over who knows more etc... I've been into Gaming sice Pong. My First PC was a Vic 20. PS3 and XBox 360 aren't bad Gaming Consoles but aren't PC's either, I know the difference. With the advent of new technology comes transition Headaches, that's all I was saying. Don't bother replying with another snippy comment, I won't respond.

Damn, that was one of the most hateful and undeserved responses I've EVER read on the Intardweb. I shudder to think we share the same first name.
Damn forum trolls! Go back to the shadows from onsted you came, vile idiot!
I've run into a couple programs that have "Windows Vista" on the box, but are clearly not well tested, AvP I remember also had WinXP issues. Vista is better an older games than XP was. Internet wasn't as big back then, not every village idiot could post on newsgroups either. Ah, memories.
my first system was an Atari 800, still have it in fact. I sold my ST though, still regret that to this day.
Chessnut - 09 Sep 2007 10:08 GMT Hi Halo 2 for VISTA, cant get past the opening credits With Halo1 combat evolved. When I reach the mission after the "silent Cartographer, my screen freezes up, then it goes to black, then back to the game..,… and the message appears: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". Then another messages appears: "Attempt to reset the display driver failed, windows will shut down so not cause any damage". Any ideas please, NVIDIA Geforce 8800Gts card latest driver, brand new computer. Desperately disappointed, the computer was rated best buy for games.
> Would like to see anyones attempt with HALO on Vista. Alfred Kaufmann - 09 Sep 2007 15:40 GMT I have Halo 2 running on my Vista Home Premium 64 bit machine and I also have an EVGA (Nvidia) Geforce 8800 GTS video card. I have not played the game much but I have not had any crashes. Make sure you have the latest driver from Nvidia installed and if that does not do it try their latest beta driver 163.44 availbale from Guru3D.com.
Good luck! Al

Such is available, though most likely not official supported.
Jupiter Jones [MVP] - 24 Dec 2007 22:32 GMT There is no such patch, at least not from Microsoft. If such a patch exists, it is made from someone else and not supported by Microsoft.
