Second monitor is blank

i have been using a single monitor for a while now and just for the heck of
it i wanted to put a second monitor on. when i plugged it in the computer
found it cuz i looked in the devices and there was a second monitor there but
i can't figure out how to use it. Right now it is just black. the only other
thing is it is one of my older computer's monitor, but i dont think that
should be a problem. help me

ok i went deep into my computer and found something that would help me add a
monitor but it seems to lack the option of two monitors. it was my nvidia
control panel that i was looking in and yea i still have a problem with the
second monitor so i still need help.
