Hello.
I've installed Vista build 5384 on my laptop. Everything went fine except
that I can't activate the "enable transparent glass" option in Visual
Appearance. The option is available for select but when I select it and then
press OK button nothing happeans.
I've got the latest graphic card drivers. I know that I have a capable
graphic card (ATI X600).
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just to say that my ATI X600 has 64MB.
I've read in some places that you need at least 128MB of video mem to run
the full Aero experience. In other places i've read that you need at least
64MB but it's recommended to have 128MB of video mem.
So wich of the statments is correct?

Is it Direct X 9 complient card that has driver that supports (WDDM) Windows
Display Driver Model? Open Control Panel (set to Classic View) > System >
Advance Settings > Hardware > Device Manager > Expand Display. If you don't
see WDDM beside it, your card does have a WDDM driver installed.

Hi Andre,

There is no WDDM beside of the graphic card driver.
But I download the latest drivers from ATI for Vista Beta 2 (dated 24 May
2006). ATI site says that driver is LDDM and my graphic card is on the
supported list.
Here it is the link from ATI:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questi
onID=19933

Can I do anything to update my driver for WDDM?
ATI X600 with 64MB fully support Aero Glass? Or do I need at least 128MB?
Thank you.

LDDM is the same WDDM, just that changed the L to W after they renamed
Longhorn Windows Vista. It should support Glass, but only at a resolution of
1024 by 768.

I've re-installed the drivers from ATI and now it works only at a max
resolution of 1440x900 32bit.
But everytime I restart Vista it keeps changing the resolution for the max
resolution possible (1680x1050)! And of course at this resolution I can't get
the Glass effect.
Is there any way to force the resolution not to change when the system
restarts? I've checked Display Settings and ATI and it's correctly configured
for 1440x900 but everytime I restart the resolution changes for the max!

Maybe thats because it is "not a supported" resolution.

I don't think that is true. Because the glass effect only work at a max
resolution of 1440x900. When I enter Vista I change the resolution from
1650x1050 (max resolution possible on the laptop) to 1440x900. But when I
restart the computer Vista changes to 1650x1050! (?!?!?) Another strange
thing is that I can only change the display setting thru the ATI Control
Panel and not from Windows display settings...
Isn't this strange? I understand that both things are at a beta stage (ATI
drivers and Vista) :-) but... !
