hello,

i have a dell inspiron 6400, vista home premium 32-bit. for some reason
all my removable disk are all named the same thing yet on all my other
computers they all come up as the default name for removable disks (what
ever it may be). i was wondering if someone could help me:
1. tell me how to show the removable disk drives at all times and maybe
i can fix the problem that way.

or

2.  tell me how to correct this through another process.

my second problem is the autoplay function. about a week or so i have
noticed that every time i plug in my external hard drive or flash
drives, autoplay does not run and it should. i have chacked all the
settings i know about and autoplay is set o run for every drive, but
obviously it doesn't. help with these problems would be greatly
appriciated.

thanks,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer*

Change the value of *NoDriveTypeAutoRun *DWORD value to *91 *(in HEX)
and *195 *(in Decimal )

Hi, Ari.

In addition to MVP Ramesh's advice, you should get familiar with Disk
Management.  That's a utility that has been built into every version of
Windows since Win2K.  This is the tool to use to manage not only hard disk
drives, but any device that can be assigned a "drive" letter, like USB flash
drives, digital cameras, optical drives...

The shortcut way to get to Disk Management is to press the Start button,
then type "diskmgmt.msc" and press Enter.  Study the screen and the Help
file to learn more about your hard drives than most users ever know.  ;<)

Go here download and run this script:

This script should restore Auto run for your CD drives.
