SD Card Reader - Help

coovert - 30 May 2007 18:28 GMT I have been using my SD card reader, which is built into my computer, since I purchased it in January. Today, I insert my card, and it doesn't even recognize that it's there. The light comes on as if it is recognizing it, but it does not auto play and under My Computer, it still shows the SD drive, but does not show anything as being read. It has worked perfectly up until today. I've checked for driver updates, disabled and enabled the driver. I can insert the card into an external USB or my printer port and it works, so it isn't the card. Any suggestions?

I found the following. Take a look to see whether it explains anything for you:

It would be useful if you would tell us something about your hardware. We don't even know what type of SD card you have, who manufactured it, what its specifications are, and whatever else you can tell us. Something about your computer system would also be helpful. We have nothing to go on.

Any suggestions? coovert - 31 May 2007 04:03 GMT Hey Freddy, Sorry about that. I have a 1GB Dane-Elec SD card. My computer was new in January. I am running Vista Home Premium, it is a Gateway computer, GT 5408. Every drive is working except the SD Card slot. I even tried a different card (SD) and it still didn't work.

Thanks for the information. I'll see what I can do with it, takes time. In the meantime, when you said that "I tried this. Unfortunately, it did not help." What was it that your tried? There's a lot of information on that site I referenced, and "this" would indicate that you tried one of something. Are you sure your read, understood, and applied the information to your situation? There is no easy way for someone like to analyze and solve your issue from a distance. You can't beat eyes on the ground. That's you.

Any suggestions? coovert - 31 May 2007 12:16 GMT I will look at that link again to be sure that I didn't overlook something, but what I tried was downloading the rollup. I'll check again a little later for an oversight. Thanks.

Have you downloaded and installed all the Vista updates available on the Microsoft update site?

Any suggestions? coovert - 31 May 2007 15:06 GMT I have those automatically set up to download as they are released, but I went to Windows and tried to download all the Vista updates available for my system. They were all already downloaded. I looked at that site again, with the SD rollup package and that rollup was the only thing I saw. Should I be looking in a link somewhere for more information or fix possibilities?

Well, I've pretty much run out of ideas. Microsoft has technical support at a level higher than this forum. You might consider going to www.microsoft.com and learn about contacting them for such support. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.
