When I first bought my computer I synched my Dell Axim to Outlook 2007. I
tried to synch again today and Windows Mobile Device popped up and said that
my Axiom is too old for it ("we only service devices 2003 and later.)

I don't remember how I synched the first time; I didn't really pay
attention. But my Axim didn't get any older! How can I synch the device?

Is it a Dell Axim X5?

Yes, it is. I also thought of something else: since the time I bought the
new computer and synched, I've installed "windows updates" (the ones they are
always bugging you to install every five seconds.) Could that be the
difference?

As far as i know Mobile Device Center only supports PPC 2003 and later
for now (perhaps some early builds supported other series too). The
fastest way to fix your problem to upgrade Dell Axim X5 to Windows
Mobile 2003 OS. The problem that Dell offered this for 29$ a long time
ago, not sure if they still selling it. Checked at xda-developers too,
but thanks to the letter from Microsoft to remove all rom from they site
(well perhaps someone wanted to use WM2003 without license on they
toaster too :() so if it was there that way also out.
I would call Dell if the upgrade cd still available, as WMC will not
support it just like my HP Jornada 568.
