My cd-dvd quit working and device manager sez 'driver is missing or
corrupted, code 39'; but when I click on update driver it returns with'
updated driver is installed'. I ran Driver Detective and it showed that the
Intel 82801FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controller driver is out of date. DD then
connects to a Toshiba website and I downloaded their recommendation. While
trying to install their 22mb update, it stops and sez, "Computer does not
meet mininum requirements"; I Goggled Intel and downloaded the update for
Chipset 915, downloaded and ran the execute program, rebooted the computer
and still cd-dvd does not work and ATA still shows 'out of date' driver. I
also bought an external Sony DVD RW Drive and the computer initially
recognizes the device but states, no driver found. I put the cd which came
with the Sony but the computer, IBM Thinkpad Z60M does not 'see' the external
drive, only the internal drive which does not work.
Any suggestions? I went to Sony website to attempt to download the DRX-S50U
driver but that was not available.
Tnx for any help.

I have gone through the same problems and both times because I had
disinstalled some software. The Microsoft solution
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us) put everything back to
normal.
Quite a few people are having the same problem and waiting for a permament
solution.
