DRIVERS ALWAYS DISAPPEARING UPON SHUTDOWN

Is anyone else having this problem?  Every so often upon shut down of
computer or a restart, i start it back up only to have vista start saying
installing new hardware! It is always my soundcard, an xfi gamer, my Intel
dialup modem, , several other important drivers all seem to have just been
misplaced with their hardware.  They all go in just fine and no problems and
all working correctly but on the occasional shutdown, all awry again!  Even
though the modem drivers are still on the computer, I still have to go take
everything back out again and re-install the drivers once again just to
connect to the internet.   Vista and its bugs~!  It cant be my software.   It
seems to always want to install high definition audio drivers rather than my
sound card, which i do not even have high definition audio.  I disable it in
my device manager as always, but still, occasionally upon shutdown, same
thing, it replaces it and then I have no sound again until I go back and
re-install and reboot and then works for a little while longer.   I hope all
of this rambling on made sense to someone :)   I have an OEM version of vista
so I'm assuming that phoning tech support will do me of no use so hoping
someone here can relate and help.

In general, this happens if you don't install the device drivers properly.
Windows XP did it as well.  The usual cure is to uninstall the drivers, shut
down and remove the device, then follow the proper process to reinstall both
drivers and hardware.
