This is a cheap Dell Inspiron laptop w/Intel's shared video RAM, but has
always performed great on Vista Ultimate since beta 2; now has RTM with all
updates. Recently (past couple months?) when coming back from sleep it loses
its display settings/screen resolution back down to 800x600. I have to go
into display settings and put it back to 1280x800 where it stays till next
time. Doesn't do this every time; about 50% of the time when awakening from
sleep. On reboot it keeps the correct settings. Can't find anything about
this problem in the Vista Community or Help, but have found mention of it
elsewhere on the web, where it usually seems to be related to dual monitors,
but I don't have dual monitors. This problem is reported with Dells, Sony,
and IBM laptops, running Nvidia, ATI, or Intel cards/drivers, but it's always
Vista, so I think it is a Vista problem. Another thing the display does is
usually black out a few times when returning from sleep. Basically, it takes
longer to come back from sleep successfully than to reboot. Is this RAM
related, driver related, or Vista related? Will SP1 fix it?

I have the same problem. Have you found out anything on this?

I had this problem too until I read a post in this list from 8/07 about
setting the icons to classical icons. I think that worked - don't know why.

Lot of us experienced the same thing.I am one of those. There are so many
advices from other users, but none of those worked-out.Here is the simplest
solution.Point your cursor on the screen and right click, click on view, choose
classic icons. Then right click on screen again, click on Personalize, click
display settings ---drag the Resolution bar to the high, click OK/Apply and
restart. If icons appeared too small, change them to medium.
