SMTP SENDING ERROR

Hello

Yesterday I took the plunge and installed Vista on my box from Windows XP
Proefessional. Now I'm having problems with Outlook 2003. I set up my email
account exactly as I have for the past 5 years on XP. I have no problem
recieving email, but I can not send. I keep getting the following error:

Tasl "My Account" reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to
connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).'

I have tried everything: Enabled ports in Windows Firewall, then disabled
Firewall, I can ping and tracert to my smtp server, so I know it is up and
running, plus I can log (using exact same crediatials) in via the webmail
they have (Network Solutions) and send just find.

All I know is that my account worked just fine on XP yesterday and now it
doesn't on Vista.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks

I have the same problem. If you get a fix e-mail it to me. Sincerly, John

has anyone discovered a fix to this yet? it's very frustrating. the
correct pop/smtp settings work fine under xp, but fail to send mail
under vista x64.

when trying to send mail in outlook 2002:

"Task 'swbell.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'"

during "test account settings" all four steps complete successfully
except "Send test e-mail message," which fails and returns "Send test
e-mail message: Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-Mail
Address field."

all information is correct per isp, total bummer. the same settings
were used during the previous installation of xp.

You're likely to get more help for Outlook in newsgroup:

microsoft.public.outlook.general

Mention which version of Outlook you're using under which
version of Windows, in case it matters.

Although Outlook 2002 will run under Vista, it has some problems
when doing so.

The reasonable assumption is that both you and John need to properly
configure SMTP authentication.  For my sbcglobal.net account, that means
checking the "My server requires authentication" box on the "Servers" page
in account setup and the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
radio button in the box which appears after clicking the "Settings..."
button.   I have other accounts which require that I use the "Log on using"
feature in place of "Use same settings..."

If you are not certain, check your mail provider's website for setup tips.
Use the directions provided for Outlook Express, it'll be pretty much the
same.

I am having the same problem.  Outgoing mail will work at work but not
at home on my laptop.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject '', Account: 'work', Server:
'smtp.illinoisfirestore.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421
Cannot connect to SMTP server 216.219.253.247 (216.219.253.247:25),
connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421,

Does your connections from your home to that server cross over from one
internet provider's equipment to another's before they reach the server?
If so, such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause problems
for spammers, and you need to ask illinoisfirestore.com if they allow
outgoing mail connections to use any other port instead.  Just trying all
the
ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are about 65,000 ports
available, and it's unlikely that more than a few of them are set to accept
outgoing mail.

Your home ISP will block your use of the 'smtp.illinoisfirestore.com'
server. For an explanation, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

To send from home, you will have to substitute your home ISP's
SMTP server.
