Titasista - 23 Jan 2008 00:19 GMT Hi, I am not able to send out emails from Windows Mail. I can receive email. I've tried everything that I'm supposed to. I tried going to the troubleshooting page and doing everything suggested but still nothing. Does anyone have this error message:
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
I've even tried my service provider but to no avail. This problem happened only after I installed Windows Vista. Also, as I'm typing the cursor moves out of place, this is very frustrating.
Gary VanderMolen - 23 Jan 2008 08:04 GMT You copied the fluff and left out the most important part of the error message, which should look something like this:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Email problem', Account: 'pop.hawaiiantel.net', Server: 'smtp.hawaiiantel.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Kindly include that part of the error message so I'll have some meat to work with.

Jevermd - 23 Jan 2008 18:23 GMT I too am having problems getting my sent items working properly - incoming works fine. Any help would be appreciated. I am working on a Wireless connection within my home. Here's the error message I'm receiving...

Since many email providers block connections to port 25 that come in from another internet provider's equipment, to cause trouble for spammers, this can also cause trouble for wireless users.
You might check if Comcast has their email servers set up to accept outgoing mail on any port other than port 25, and if so, the details of how to switch to that port.

Their instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should also work under Windows Mail if they don't use the HTTP protocol and you avoid the One Click Fix.

Jevermd - 23 Jan 2008 19:40 GMT Thank you for your info - we're set up on our own secure wireless site - there are others in the neighborhood - but like ours, most our password protected.
I did check with the link you gave me, was able to switch the port to 587 and require authentication - just did a test and all worked fine!
Many thanks... Janice

Dave - 23 Jan 2008 19:17 GMT Jevermd, You shouldn't hijack a thread.. start your own by asking your question. It will help eliminate confusion re replies. However, you might try changing to port 587 on your Comcast account. Here's how... http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=EmailOutlook18914

Callum - 14 May 2008 16:37 GMT "I'm having problems sending e-mail" is what i have been told in my error page. i like many others are having problems sending emails but i can receive them very well. this is what appears on the error page

THANKS SO MUCH IF YOU CAN HELP IT WOULD BE GREAT

If so, such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers, and you need to ask bigpond.com if they allow connections to their outgoing email server to use some other port, and if so, where to find the details. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are about 65,000 ports available and it's unlikely that more than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.
Also, did the username include any characters other than letters, numerals, one @, and at least one period? If so, which characters? I suspect that a ! in the username is especially likely to cause problems.
Gary VanderMolen - 15 May 2008 03:09 GMT That error message typically means your Internet connection is from a different network than the SMTP server. Port 25 SMTP servers must be accessed from the same network as the one providing your Internet connection.
If you need a workaround, let me know if you are sending from a laptop away from home, or from a stationary PC.
