kstrick - 11 Mar 2008 03:34 GMT Error Message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Can anyone help???
Gary VanderMolen - 11 Mar 2008 04:38 GMT Thank you for including the complete error message. It makes troubleshooting so much easier. Change the outgoing mail server port from 25 to 80.

Gary VanderMolen - 11 Mar 2008 22:03 GMT Uhhh, what made you think that the response I gave to another person applied to your situation? Very few SMTP servers work on port 80. I see that Robert has already steered you in the right direction.

The funny thing is that I have a notebook and a desktop and the notebook is the one giving me a hard time... maybe it's 'cause it's Vista.
Anyone knows what can I do?

[quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > > > Can anyone help??? robertmiles@bellsouthNOSPAM.net - 11 Mar 2008 15:31 GMT What you need to do for a connection to the terra.com.br email server is very likely to be different from what someone using the secureserver.net email server needs to do. You should ask terra.com.br for the instructions for how to set up to use their email servers. If they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook Express should work under Windows Mail also as long as they don't call for the HTTP protocol. The instructions are probably somewhere on their web site.
If your connection to this server crosses over from one internet provider's equipment to another's before it reaches the server, such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers. If this affects you, and the instructions offer the chance to use a port other than port 25 to connect to the outgoing mail server, do this. Note that just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out which ports work, since there are about 65,000 ports available.

Renata - 11 Mar 2008 15:42 GMT I've already asked them and they said it was something wrong with my notebook. But I don't think the notebook is the problem 'cause the mail was working perfectly well 2 weeks ago.

Just in case it's really a problem on your notebook, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause assorted problems under Windows Mail, but it often takes months for these problems to show up.
Also, are messages you tried to send building up in your Outbox? If so, can you move all all of these messages to the Drafts folder or delete them?

Renata - 11 Mar 2008 19:55 GMT I was using "avast!" but I read that AVG is more compatible with Vista, so I uninstalled avast e installed AVG but the problem persists.
A few weeks ago, I guess when the problem started, I couldn't erase a message in the outbox so I did what Microsoft told me to do: downloaded a file and installed, and now, for that problem, Windows Mail is working just fine. I move all the messages and delete them. But now I can't send e-mail with attached files or even reply an email.

[quoted text clipped - 59 lines] > >> >> > > >> >> > Can anyone help??? robertmiles@bellsouthNOSPAM.net - 11 Mar 2008 20:23 GMT Either avast! or AVG is more compatible with Windows Mail if you do a custom install and tell it to leave out the part that scans email. You may want to uninstall AVG, then do such a custom install.

Gary VanderMolen - 11 Mar 2008 22:09 GMT When you get that error is your notebook at a different location than your other PC? Is the notebook using a different Internet connection?

But with that off and the Antivirus off (for the email), my computer won't be easier to get hacked or something like that??

Gary VanderMolen - 11 Mar 2008 23:08 GMT No. Antivirus email scanning is unnecessary. Read this: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/d4578f66d8f00a0188256d4e006aaa94/4b a5fc8ef939c44c88256c7500723cf0?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

I've only seen one of them. You may have to use another port such as port 25, if you've not seen anything from terra.com.br saying that their email server supports SMTP on this port. I can't read Portuguese, or I'd check what they allow for you.

Thanks!!!
