Windows Forum / Windows Vista / Mail / May 2008I put the wrong host/server. How do I change this?
When I set this up I put my wrong server and now I can't send anything. How can I change this information? When I tried to send something it says that the host 'smtp' and 'pop3' is not correct. I didn't know who my server was so I just guest thinking that I could change it if it was wrong. However, I don't know HOW to change it. Please HELP! Make changes here: Tools, Accounts, select the mail account, Properties, Servers. The correct server names can be obtained from your mail provider. They will have a web page with that information. If you can't find it, tell us who your mail provider is, and we will look it up for you. I see you have a Yahoo email address. The free US-based Yahoo accounts have webmail access only. Also, Yahoo may cancel your account if they find out you are using it. Another solution is to use an email address assigned by your ISP. A mail provider is a company that maintains one or more mail servers to use in getting your email to and from the rest of the world. Yahoo maintains such servers for yahoo.com, and also more for other countries' yahoo customers and some internet providers who don't want to maintain their own email servers. The servers for parts of Yahoo other than the yahoo.com part often have different rules on how you can connect. Those web sites are free to look at, but actually doing what they suggest can cost you some money. Putting a server on your computer, instead of using one at an email provider, takes enough effort that if you had put one there, you'd know it. That would be a company that runs mail servers on the Internet so you can get an account with them which includes an email address and the right to use their servers for sending and receiving email. The company that provides your connection to the Internet can also serve as your mail provider. Then there are independent mail providers like Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail. Before we can help you efficiently, we need to know some facts. Do you use that email address, brooklyn082607@yahoo.com? If so, is that the only email address you have? For privacy reasons only tell us the part after the @ symbol. How do you get your connection to the Internet? Do you pay some company for your Internet connection? If so, who is that? You still have to look at those web sites to find the information, though, and looking at those web sites doesn't cost you anything either.
