HI, I've got a problem whereby when I try to access mail using Windows Mail, the programme pops up a window (entitled Windows Security) which asks for my user name and password... but it doesn't accept these when I enter them. Windows Mail had been working OK up until this started to happen yesterday. I have tried clicking tools, then accounts then properties and then re-entering the correct password and user name (ie the password and user name that I use to access the Internet... which, incidentally, still works OK for Internet access)... but it still doesn't accept them. Some email providers require you to enter your username with no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require you to follow it with the part of your email address that starts with @, and some require that you don't. Some insist that you enter your password with CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct places. You may want to check if your email provider has recently changed their requirements, without warning their users in advance. Hi, I've got exactly the same problem as beneith. This usually means that the account file which stores your password has become corrupted. The corruption source is your antivirus program. Which antivirus program are you running? As a temporary fix, delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail and recreate the account. Many thanks for all the help and suggestions. In the end I simply removed a Microsoft tool that I'd downloaded (a tool that allowed me to save Word docs as PDFs) a couple of days previously... then I removed Adobe Acrobat Reader.... and then redownloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader (exactly the same version that I'd removed). Didn't fix the problem immediately... but I then had to spend some time away from my computer.... and a few hours later, when I returned to my computer, Windows Mail was working fine again. I don't think any of the actions you took caused the current improvement. Either your mail server had a temporary problem, or else the issue is an intermittent one. Thanks for the suggestion, Gary. However, I don't have a separate mail server on site.... all emails are downloaded direct onto my PC. Also, while I had the problem with Windows Mail... I was still able to use all services that my ISP offers, so I assume it wasn't a problem with my ISP's server. But thanks for the tip re. Anti Virus. If the problem returns, I'll give that a try. I wasn't talking about a mail server you own, I meant the mail server you connect to in order to download your email.
