I have just started having problems sending emails, I am receiving my emails
with no problems. I have even added the windows mail to be allowed through
the firewall. I don't know if there was a windows update that has caused the
problem since I have not had problems like this before. A window pops up
stating....your server has unexpectedly terminated the connections. Possible
causes for this include server problems, network problems, or longer periods
of inactivity. Error number 0x800CCCoF. My internet provides say there is
no problem on their end and that it must be a firewall problem. Does anyone
have any suggestions?
Thanks

We often need to see the entire error message, not just the error number,
to offer much help. Right click on it and copy it into your next message.
You might also answer a few questions that would be likely to be asked
later. For example, does your connection to the outgoing mail server
cross over from one internet provider's equipment to another's before it
reaches the server? Are you using a wireless connection?
Look in the Outbox. Are messages you've tried to send piling up there?
If so, try moving these messages to the Drafts folder or deleting them.
Tell us if any refuse to do either.

Something I forgot in my last message:
It's a good idea to tell us what if any antivirus programs you have, since a
number of them cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Bea - I am experiencing the same thing and I am willing to bet there was an
update that caused it. I deleted McAfee and I still have problems receiving
email. I get the same message as you though...

Depending on how you "deleted" McAfee, it may not have been effective.
Use the normal uninstall feature, then follow up with McAfee's removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033
As always, we need to see the *complete* error message in order to
diagnose the problem accurately.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: Security4UDirect.net: unanswered questions',
Account: 'mail.myturbonet.com', Server: 'mail.myturbonet.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
I checked with my internet provider and they said yes the mail server
crosses over from 1 internet provider equipment to another before reaching
the server.
No this is not a wireles connection. I have an ethernet connection.
My outbox messages were piling up so I deleted them successfully and sent
them through another email I use for my work.
I use Webroot spy sweeper and Trend micro antivirus. I have received an
answer from Trend micro that they do not use a firewall. I haven't received
an answer from Webroot.
Thank you so much for any help.

Then connections that use port 25 are likely to be blocked to cause
trouble for spammers. Ask myturbonet.com if their outgoing mail
server allows outgoing mail connection using some port other than
port 25, since the other ports are seldom blocked. Just trying all
the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are about 65,000
ports available.

A recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not available)
tends
to cause problems in Windows Mail. However, let that wait until you get
the blocked port problem solved.

I received an email response from Spy Sweeper this morning. They stated if
Spy Sweeper detects another security application scanning ports 110 and 25
that it will result in an error message or make it unable to send or retrieve
emails. They had me change the values of the ports to SMTP port to 10025 and
POP3 to 10110 and this has resolved my issue. Thanks so much for all of your
suggestions.

Allowing a security program like Spy Sweeper to mess with your
email is asking for trouble. Eventually it will corrupt Windows Mail.

I am having the same problem with the same error and assumed it had something
to do with a switch to FIOS with Verizon. Do you switch the settings for
SMTP and POP3 in the Spy Sweeper to avoid that error? I assume I need to
keep 25 and 110 settings in the Windows mail for Verizon connection.

Verizon's support website is a nightmare to navigate, and I don't know
if their FIOS service uses different email settings than their older
connection service. I stand by my previous comment that using Spy
Sweeper's email scanning feature with Windows Mail is asking for
trouble.
