My HP PC is only a few months old with little or no problems. My Windows
Mail has worked just fine until recently. All of a sudden out of nowhere
this little window pops up wanting my userid & password. I can put it in
all day long, but it will not accept it nor will it go away. I can no
longer get my emails & with our small business this is a nightmare that
won't end. Does anyone know how to fix this as Microsoft is no help at
all. Thanks

Some non-compatible antivirus programs will eventually corrupt
the password store in Windows Mail. Which antivirus are you running?
Be sure to turn off email scanning in your antivirus. Then delete that
mail account, restart Windows Mail, and recreate the account.

OneCare should be compatible. If renewing the account doesn't
fix the problem, I suggest upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Gary, Sorry it took so long to respond, but I couldn't get on the site
all day yesterday & most of today. Update: I tried Windows Live & the
same problem occurred with the userid & password popping up. I also
loaded Outlook Express from my MS Office 2007 disc. Tried that & had the
same problem with the userid/password popup. I even uninstalled Windows
Live One Care virus program, but it still pops up. I'm to the point of
having the PC re-formatted.

If three different email programs produce the same result, there
is likely something wrong at the other end (your mail provider).
Who is your mail provider?

Can you try a different mail account? Windows Live Mail (WLM)
will work with a free Hotmail account. Also you can get a free
Gmail account that will work with both Windows Mail and WLM.

Trouble is I have a a Hughes account with a Hughes.com e-mail address
for our business. All of our bus cards along with our web site has this
address. Can I transport my hughes mail to Yahoo? Thanks for all your
help, Tom

I didn't mean to suggest for you to change your email address. I just
wanted you to test a different account so you can prove to yourself
that there is nothing wrong with your Windows Mail. I would hate to
see you go to trouble of re-formatting your PC when it will probably
make no difference.

Have you tried to get help from HughesNet?

P.S. Please quote the post you are responding to. I respond to over 100
different issues each day, so there's no way I can remember the history
of each issue.

Hughes.com?  Isn't it Hughes.net?

I'm not really familiar with Hughes... but take a look at this...
http://kb.hughesnet.com/al/12/2/1079.htm#3568

You need the complete email address for the username
You need SMTP authentication, but not SSL

Hey Gary, Your right ... Hughes.net ...... I did re-format the hard
drive, but you were right, it made no difference at all. As soon as I
set up my account on windows mail, the userid & password window still
popped up. I'll try and do a re-setup with the instructions you sent me,
but if that doesn't work, I think I'll try Gmail. I've pretty much
decided that this will never go away. My next PC will be a mac as This
seems to be a wide spread problem with no remedy. It happens after a few
months of using windows mail. I did a little research on other help
sites only to find I'm not the only one with this problem.

The Hughes.net email setup instructions are courtesy of Dave.

We often get a warped sense of how troublesome a certain piece of software
is by reading all the online complaints. The thing is, the 99% of users who
have no trouble don't bother to post online about it.
