Hi
I have a new computor with Vista installed.  I cannot receive or send emails
using windows mail and keep getting the message as follows

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Server:
'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do these instructions help?

What if any antivirus programs do you have?  Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom that fast.

If you have the Google Toolbar program installed, uninstall it.

If you have any program installed with SMS in its name, what is its full
name?

Hi
I have Norton antivirus and have disabled the receiving and sending facility
to no effect.
I don't have the google toolbar programme installed and there do not seem to
be any SMS programmes when I did a file search.
When I opened my email it downloaded my mail box but has not worked since.

Any other ideas or should I uninstall Norton?

Disabling part or all or Norton is seldom enough; you usually have to
uninstall
it instead.  You then often need to run this program to take care of what
the
uninstall left behind:

You sometimes even have to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program
that doesn't cause such problems.  McAfee and a recent version of Trend
are bad choices; they cause problems too.  I recommend either avast! or
AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out the part
that
scans email.

On new computers, Windows Mail usually comes with at least one
message already in your Inbox, but not set up to download mail from
any account.

If you still have problems, we're likely to need to see the entire error
messages to offer much more help.  Right click on them and copy
them to your next message.
