I am trying to create a Windows Mail account. I have always used Hotmail and
when I try to email someone directly (from craigslist, for example) it pops
up that I have to download Windows Mail and then I go through all the info
and then it says that a msn.com address won't work with Windows Mail? I am so
confused and frustrated. Can someone help? Thank you very much

You can't download Windows Mail, so I don't know what that means.

Windows Mail can't handle MSN mail unless you have a rare POP3 account.  I
suggest (free) Windows Live Mail:

Windows Live Mail is more likely to work with Hotmail and msn.com, so you
may
want to download and install it:

Windows Mail cannot access Hotmail accounts.
You will need to download and install the newer Windows Live Mail, which
can.

The other responders have already told you about Windows Live Mail.
However, if you would rather just stick with webmail and not bother
with a desktop email program you can do so by using this fix:
