Send and Receive frozen

I've been trying to check my emails and when I hit "send and receive" it
states that it is  "finishing current message" but nothing seems to be
happening.
I have gone to my server and deleted a large email but to avail

The current message could be in your Outbox instead.  Check what's
there, and if you find any messages there, move at least the oldest one
to your Drafts folder or delete it.  Let us know if any messages refuse
to do either.
