HELP!: importing/exporting contacts

I would like to export my contacts from my computer to my second computer.
Both computers use Windows Mail.  I tried exporting the contacts as CSV and
vCard files.  Using both methods, I was able to import my contacts into my
second computer but they weren't neatly organized in files: i.e. business
contacts, personal contacts, family, etc.  Is there a way to export my
contacts so they are still in the correct files and are neatly organized?
Wouldn't it be nice!

The export/import process seems to lose the group membership information.

Since both computers use Windows Mail, try this:
Navigate to C:\Users\YourUsername\Contacts .
Copy the whole Contacts folder to a flash drive, then carry that over
to the other computer and replace its Contacts folder.

Thank you Gary!  It worked!  Now I am going to add my contacts to my old
computer that uses Outlook Express.  Should I export my contacts in the CVS
format?  or vCard format?  What is really the difference between the two?

Thanx for your help!!

Cheers,

Josie

I've never used vCard because not many programs support it.
I don't think OE does.
I don't know if it has any advantages over CSV format.

Having trouble introducing the Contacts and Folders from my old box (with MS
Outlook 2000) to my new box (with Vista MS Mail).  I was able to get most of
the folders off MS Outlook (except Inbox and Folders with pics) onto a disc
in  .dbx files but can't seem to import to my new MS Mail.   Any
suggestions...??  - I still have both boxes running.

If you don't get all the .dbx files, including those which don't contain any
messages, you're likely to have trouble importing them.  If there are
missing files, you can produce replacements that at least allow you to
import the files you have by setting up an Outlook Express account
on your old computer that has the same list of folders and at least one
message in each of these folders.

Also, Windows Mail sometimes has trouble importing .dbx files that
are anywhere but in a directory on the hard drive of the same computer,
or are readonly instead of read-write.

Put all the .dbx files in the same directory, and tell Windows Mail to
import the whole directory, instead of specific .dbx files.

I assume that you produced the .dbx files by first importing the messages
from Outlook to Outlook Express on your old computer.  If not, try that.
This should also produce a .wab file containing your old contacts; bring
that across too.

Sorry, I managed to send that last message before it was finished.

If the import procedure doesn't bring in the old contacts, start Windows
Mail, then click on Tools, then Windows Contacts, then Import, then
Windows Address Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then Import,
then find the .wab file and click on it, then Close, then close the contacts
window.

Export the Contacts from Outlook as a CSV file.  Windows Contacts will
import that.
