Windows Forum / Windows Vista / Mail / May 2008I am having difficulty in sending email and receiving windows visa mail
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'IMAP', Server: 'IMAP', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Sometime my email is sent but when the otherside tries and sends one back they get an error report. Also i get show on my screen as 'incoming mail' then it too changes to error. I am not sure when i set this up what server to put in it asks POP or IMAP and i thought i put the correct one in. to make sure i have done this for both. Still having trouble. I have send emails under all the names and POP and IMAP things i coud think of to my friends but they have not been getting them. or if they have just one and they have trouble sending. Does this seem confusing - just think how i feel. CAN ANY one help. is it just a case that i have set it up wrong? > The connection to the server has failed. Somehow you have typed in the word "IMAP" in the server name. The server name is NOT "IMAP". It should be something like "imap.tiscali.co.uk". Go to the Tiscali website and look for the correct mail settings. > The connection to the server has failed. 'IMAP' is not a valid server name, although it is a valid protocol. The correct server names depend on which email provider you are using, so ask them for their instructions on setting up to use their email servers. If they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook Express should also work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol. Many people decide to use their internet providers as their email providers also, since most internet accounts include one or more email accounts. The instructions are probably somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and see if anyone here already knows where to find their instructions. > The connection to the server has failed. IMAP connections seldom use port 110. Check if you have one of these settings wrong. http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_settings_start.html If you've made a mistake in a setting for which the default value is correct, the instructions may not tell you about this setting. If you suspect that has happened, remove your email account under Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and use these instructions to add the account again. They were written for Outlook Express, but should also work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol. |
