The problem is that we seem to have mail appear in the inbox and then
disappear.  Is it possible this is an issue with the anti-virus mail
scan.

Make sure "Show all messages" is checked and nothing else.

Hello lenlagasse,
I don't know the answer, but you might want to check your Message Rules
from your windows mail or windows live mail, just in case : -
Open Windows Mail > click Inbox > top panel, click Tools > click
Message Rules > click Mail > make sure all the boxes in that window are
Un-checked. Close all windows.
Same procedures to windows live mail.
PS. I suppose you don't know where they disappeared to.

Thank you for the response.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where the messages went.  I will check
out the message rules as you suggested and update the list.

If it's deleted, rather than just hidden, you may need to check the
Deleted Items folder.
